STAFF REPORTERGangtok: In a high level meeting at his official Mintokgang residence on Wednesday, March 10, Chief Minister, Dr. Pawan Chamling briefed Legislators and Heads of the line Departments on the modalities of the Career Fair cum Employment Mela which will be held on 26th March 2010 at Chintan Bhawan. He said the Career Fair cum Employment Mela is being organized by the Government to cater to the upliftment of the educated unemployed youths by giving them exposure and expertise in generating employment. During the Mela, he said, the line Departments including RMDD, AH&VHS, Agriculture and Horticulture Departments, among others, will be facilitating the educated unemployed beneficiaries in the form of financial tie-ups with various banking institutions, grants, subsidies and other loan opportunities for taking up viable projects. “The Employment Mela which is proposed to be held at Chintan Bhawan is expected to benefit around five thousand beneficiaries under different line departments by undertaking projects in diverse fields like businesses in service sector, poultry, dairy farming, floriculture, horticulture, bee-keeping, piggery etc.”, he said.
Chief Minister appealed to the Legislators and the line departments to “select only those genuine beneficiaries who would be committed to implement the projects”. He also directed them to initiate follow up actions after disbursement of the benefits and stressed that the distribution process should be carried out in a phased manner in three installments of a sum of Rs.3 lakhs to five lakhs. He specially directed implementing agencies like SAABCO and SIDICO to set up a monitoring system so that the beneficiaries really implement their projects. He also directed them to provide recommendations to the beneficiaries and arrange for tie-ups with other banks and financial institutions. He advised them to meditate on devising a mechanism whereby the banks would give priority in funding the local educated unemployed youths.
Chief Minister also told the MLAs of different constituencies to submit the list of beneficiaries from their respective constituencies latest by 16th March and urged them to dedicate themselves in making the Mela a grand success, thus realizing the long cherished dream of his Government. He also asked the Legislators to encourage the educated unemployed youths to take up private entrepreneurship specially in the production and service sector to reduce too much dependence on import of essential products from outside the state.
The Career Fair cum Employment Mela is expected to have participation by some of the premier institutions from within and outside the country, like Indian Air Force, Indian Navy, IIFT, New Delhi, NIFT, Ahmedabad, Birla Group of Hotels, Kolkota, Singapore Airlines, Denmark Retail, Dubai, WIPRO, India, Amnesty University, Noida, ADT Shipping, Singapore, British Consulate, International Centre for Culinary arts, Dubai, to name a few.
