Calcutta: Three players — Bikas Jairu, Sanjay Chhetri and Sagar Rai — of Sikkim’s Santosh Trophy squad have tested positive for swine flu. The trio who complained of high fever were admitted at the state-run Infectious Diseases (I.D.) Hospital at Beleghata.
Indian Football Association (IFA) general secretary Utpal Ganguli confirmed the news about the trio testing positive for swine flu (H1N1 virus).
“Three Sikkim players were admitted to the I.D. Hospital after they complained of high fever and chest congestion. They are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital and will be released after five days,” Ganguli said.
Apart from the trio, Robin Gurung was also admitted with high fever but he was later released as he tested negative.
Meanwhile, match commissioner S.S. Shetty have asked the Sikkim team management to produce medical certificates of all players, provided they qualify for the pre-quarter finals.
Sikkim, who are in Cluster VI, have already finished their group league engagements. They trounced Haryana 4-0 but lost 0-1 to Chhattisgarh. They await the result of the Haryana-Chhattisgarh match.
