President Patil arrives on a three-day visit to Sikkim

Gangtok, Apr 14 (PTI) President Pratibha Patil arrived here today on a three-day visit to Sikkim.

Patil was received at the Libing helipad by the Acting Governor M K Narayanan, Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling and senior state government officials.

Gangtok: Mrs. Pratibha Devi Singh Patil, President of India, landed at Libing Army helipad in Gangtok Wednesday (April 14) afternoon by Indian Air Force helicopter on her three days’ official visit to Sikkim. She is accompanied by her family members.

Governor, Mr. M K Narayanan, Chief Justice Mr. Barin Ghosh and Chief Minister Dr. Pawan Chamling received President Patil at the helipad, where she inspected a Guard of Honour by Gorkha Regiment of Indian Army. Thereafter she left the helipad and proceeded to Raj Bhavan in a motorcade.

The mega tourism project Kanchendzonga Tourist Villa cum Socio-Cultural Amusement Park at Ranka, about 12 kilometers from Gangtok, reflecting cultural ethos of Sikkim will be formally inaugurated by the President today (April 15).

She will inaugurate the concluding functions of Golden Jubilee Celebrations of the High Court of Sikkim on April 16 in the morning and then she will attend the first convocation of Sikkim University. She will return to Delhi same day in the afternoon.
